Point Reyes, CA Day Trip

The Point Reyes National Seashore is located about an hour North of San Francisco on the PCH. The drive to Point Reyes is stunning. You get to cross the Golden Gate Bridge, drive through redwoods, small coastal Marin County towns, winding coastal roads, and mountains of dairy farms. It’s a serene and beautiful place to journey to.

Planning your visit.

Chimney Rock

We hiked the Chimney Rock Trail at Point Reyes. This stunning trail jets out into Drakes Bay for a stunning panoramic view. The hike took about 30 minutes and we were able to get some good views of all elephant seals on the beaches. I will never forget the echos of all the seals barking throughout the hike.

Chimney Rock Trail - All Trails

The seashore is famous for its elephant seals who are often spotted all along the shore. If you look closely you can see in this picture there are mother elephant seals with their seal pups.

On the other side the Chimney Rock Trail there is an elephant seal overlook. Be sure to take the short walk to check it out.

Earthquake Trail

This super family friendly hike is fun and educational. It’s a short .7 mile hike, perfect for any skill level.

According to All Trails:
“Discover the geology of the San Andreas Fault Zone through interpretive signs on this paved loop starting at the Bear Valley trailhead. Along the trail, a fence that jumped 16 feet in the 1906 earthquake helps us to imagine the earth's power.”

The town of Point Reyes

Point Reyes is known for its cheese because of all the dairy farms, its oysters because of their coastline, and its local charm in downtown.

Planning your visit.

We stopped into the Station House Cafe to sit on their patio for a late lunch. The entire downtown was super cute and had lots of historic and local charm.
